Human blood is red because of the hemoglobin, which contains a red-colored compound called heme that’s crucial for carrying oxygen through your bloodstream. Heme contains an iron atom which binds to oxygen; it’s this molecule that transports oxygen from your lungs to other parts of the body.

Children: The average 36kg (80-pound) child will have about 2.65 Liter of blood in their body, or 0.7 gallons.

Adults: The average healdthy adult weighing 60 to 80 kg have about 4.5 liter to 5.7 liter blood.

Pregnant Women: To support their growing babies, pregnant women usually have anywhere from 30 to 50 percent more blood volume. than those women who are not pregnant. Sometimes the amount of blood in the human body can differ based on where you live. For example, people who live at high altitudes have more blood because there isn’t as much oxygen at higher altitudes.
